The Young Business Forum welcomed Peter Birltes, Group Managing Director and CEO of Super Retail Group at an event where he addressed 80 young business entrepreneurs.
In the constantly changing retail space in Australia, businesses face massive competition and challenge from online competitors, globalisation, current trends, regulation as well as many other variables.
At this event, Peter shared insights into some of the big decisions he has made in order to steer the group and brave the extreme challenges of the retail industry over the last few years as well as provide guests with valuable career advice.
About Peter Birtles
Peter Birtles joined Super Retail Group in April 2001 as Chief Financial Officer and was appointed as Managing Director in January 2006. Over the last seven years he has overseen the reinvigoration of the Supercheap Auto business, the development of the BCF Boating, Camping, Fishing business, the launch of the Goldcross Cycles business, the acquisition of the Ray’s Outdoors business, the launch of the new FCO Fishing Camping and Outdoors business in New Zealand and the acquisition of Rebel Sport Group. During this time, Group sales have grown from $500 million to just over $2 billion.
Prior to joining Super Retail Group, Peter spent 12 years working with The Boots Company in the United Kingdom and Australia in a variety of senior finance, operations and information technology roles. Peter is a Chartered Accountant who started his career working with Coopers & Lybrand.
