John Stewart, Group Chief Executive Officer, NAB, was interviewed by Ross Greenwood, Business and Finance Editor, Nine Network, in front of 600 business executives in Sydney. He discussed a broad range of topics including leadership, culture, managing a turnaround and the state of Australia’s financial services sector.

National Australia Bank is one of Australia’s 20 largest companies with a market capitalisation of $63 billion.  Yet a few short years ago it found itself besieged by a foreign exchange trading scandal, a fractious board and an executive that had lost its way.

In stepped John Stewart, who was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer in February 2004.  In this time, he has led a major turnaround of the organisation, with a particular focus on developing its executive talent and culture and setting the forward growth strategy.  Since John took up the Group CEO position, NAB’s market capitalisation has risen by 60%.
