Michael Luscombe, Chief Executive Officer, Woolworths Limited, 27 May 2010
Michael Luscombe addressed a boardroom event for 60 senior business executives where he discussed “Global Perspective on Australian Retailing and Consumer Trends”. This event was generously hosted by ANZ.
Beginning as the WOOLWORTHS STUPENDOUS BARGAIN BASEMENT STORE in Sydney nearly a century ago, Woolworths now has a shopping centre in almost every metropolitan and regional centre of Australia serving over 22 million customers a week across the group.
Woolworths Limited is made up of some of the most recognisable and trusted BRANDS in retailing including Woolworths/Safeway Supermarkets, Caltex/Woolworths Service Stations, BIG W, Dick Smith, Dan Murphy's, BWS, Thomas Dux Grocer and Australian Leisure & Hospitality, and is one of the LARGEST PRIVATE EMPLOYERS in Australia with around 191,000 people, and has more than 400,000 SHAREHOLDERS.
MICHAEL LUSCOMBE was appointed Chief Executive Officer & Group Managing Director in October 2006 after a long career with Woolworths that extends back to 1978 when he started as a Management Trainee in Victoria. Michael is Chairman of the Board of Directors of ALH Group, as well as Chairman of the Australian National Retailers Association, which represents Australia's largest retailers. He is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Consumer Goods Forum, which is the only independent global food business network. Headquartered in Paris, the organisation brings together the CEOs and senior management of around 400 retailer and manufacturer members of all sizes, across 150 countries.
