Mike Quigley, Chief Executive Officer, NBN Co Limited, 22 July 2010
Mike Qugley addressed a CEO Boardroom event for 25 senior business executives where he discussed “NBN Co – designing, building and operating a wholesale only open access broadband network”. This CEO Boardroom event was generously hosted by UGL and Blake Dawson.
On 7 April 2009, the Australian Government announced the establishment of NBN Co Limited to design, build and operate the wholesale-only National Broadband Network which will provide the infrastructure that will allow wholesale and retail service providers to deliver advanced digital services to the nation. This $43 billion investment will be the single largest nation building infrastructure project in Australian history.
However, as with all visionary infrastructure projects, the NBN is not without its critics: should government be building it and at what cost? What role will Telstra and the other telcos play? Should the NBN eventually be privatised? Has there been a sufficient cost-benefit analysis of the economic or social benefits that would result from the NBN?
Mike Quigley, CEO, NBN Co Limited, has overall responsibility for the roll-out of the National Broadband Network throughout Australia. Mike joined NBN Co after a distinguished 36-year career at the French telecommunications giant, Alcatel, rising to President and COO.
