Mr Chemi Peres, Israel's leading Venture Capitalist, 14-16 September 2011
We were honoured to host Chemi Peres, who addressed a number of trade events where he discussed his insight into what makes Israel an attractive VC market, a leading nation in start-ups patenting, entrepreneurship and R&D and what are some of the current investment opportunities in Israel and the Middle East.
Chemi is the Founder and Managing Partner of Pitango, Israel's leading VC fund and has been described as one of the pioneers of Israel's venture capital industry, having been a founder of the Israel Venture Association. As the son of President Shimon Peres, he is also very active with the Peres Peace Centre, which initiates joint projects with regional and international partners to build an infrastructure for peace by advancing social-economic cooperation and establishing mutual understanding.
Chemi has recently established Amelia Investment and Holding which is an investment vehicle that seeks to identify and support business opportunities and projects throughout the Middle East that leverage and encourage cross boarder regional collaborations, joint ventures and economic growth. It also supports social entrepreneurship and peace-building enterprises as a central component of its mission.
One of Amelia's initial investments has been in a long/short hedge fund investing across the whole of the region - Turkey, Israel, and The Middle East (TIME). This fund is being overseen by Stephen Levey who joined Chemi on his visit to Australia.
Chemi and Stephen shared their insight into what makes Israel an attractive VC market, a leading nation in start-ups patenting, entrepreneurship and R&D and what are some of the current investment opportunities in Israel and the Middle East.
