Professor Yaron Ilan addressed a reception for 30 senior medical, business & academic executives where he discussed “challenges and opportunities in commercialisation technologies in the health industry - based on Israel's experience”. This breakfast event was generously hosted by Pro Mary O'Kane, NSW Government – Chief Scientist & Engineer and partnered with Hadassah Australia.

Professor Ilan is a world-renowned scientist in the fields of internal medicine, immunology, and liver diseases, with more than 230 peer-reviewed publications to his name. He is a serial entrepreneur with more than 30 patents registered under his name, including a number of drugs being developed by Immuron and other international pharmaceutical companies. He has significant biotech industry experience as a founder of several start-up companies.
Patents include:
•    Novel processes implementing selective immune downregulation (SIDR): Oral tolerance towards adenoviral vectors for long term gene expression using recombinant adenoviral vectors;
•    Immuneregulation towards viral and tumor associated antigens; and
•    The use of the non-invasive breath testing for follow-up of patients with liver and gastrointestinal disorders.
Professor Ilan discussed Israel’s unique ability and success in capturing intellectual property (IP), and transforming an idea into a commercialised product, based on the Hadasit case study.
