Nola Watson, Group General Manager, Risk & Governance, Insurance Australia Group, 12 March 2012
Nola Watson addressed a private boardroom event for 20 senior business executives where she discussed “Risk Operating Model – Principles and Practice”. This CEO Boardroom lunch was proudly sponsored by KPMG and IBM Australia.
IAG to be a top 40 ASX listed company, with a market cap of over $6 billion. IAG underwrites around $8 billion of insurance premiums each year and employs around 13,000 people. The IAG Group brands include NRMA, SGIC, SGIO, State Insurance and others.
Nola Watson leads the risk and governance function for IAG. She is responsible for the corporate governance framework, the Risk Management Strategy and oversight of Insurance Risk across the Group. Nola is also a Director of the IAG and NRMA Superannuation Board and Chair of its Audit and Risk Management Committee.
Before IAG, Nola worked in senior positions within Commonwealth and New South Wales governments, primarily in Attorney-General’s, Foreign Affairs & Trade and law enforcement portfolios.
Managing risks is the heart of the insurance business. 2011 was a perfect storm for the industry with the number of Australasian disasters, expensive funding market, and poor investment returns.
