Clive Whincup, Chief Technology Officer, Westpac Group, 7 September 2012
Clive Whincup addressed a private boardroom event for 22 senior IT business executives where he discussed - “Ensuring the sustainability of IT as a profession in Australia”. This CIO Boardroom lunch was proudly sponsored by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd and IBM Australia.
Clive joined Westpac Group as General Manager, Service Delivery Applications in May 2009. Clive was first promoted to Group General Manager in November 2010 and then Chief Information Officer in November 2011.
Clive is accountable for the delivery of all technology services across Westpac Group, comprising strategy, thought leadership, technology service delivery and vendor management. He is tasked with creating a world-class IT function, across all brands and locations that is best positioned to enable business performance.
Clive has extensive experience in several global banks including Lloyds UK and Bank of Scotland.
Clive spoke on how the Australian IT industry needs to address the paradox of increased demand for technology skills versus a rapidly declining number of university students pursuing studies and careers in this important sector.
