Rod Sims, Chairman, Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, 23 June 2013
Rod Sims addressed a boardroom lunch for 80 business executives where he discussed “Current issues facing the ACCC”. This lunch was proudly sponsored by Clayton Utz & Optus.
In a country that is constrained by its size of population and infrastructure, many industries appear to be run by duopolies or oligopolies such as our telcos, banks, and supermarkets. The ACCC plays a crucial role in protecting our consumers and small businesses. Rod discussed the current regulatory and consumer environment and highlighted a number of recent issues and trends as well as his vision and legacy for the ACCC.
Rod was appointed Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in August 2011 for a five year term.
Rod has extensive business and public sector experience. Immediately prior to his appointment to the ACCC, he was the Chairman of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of New South Wales, Commissioner on the National Competition Council, Chairman of InfraCo Asia, Director of Ingeus Limited, and member of the Research and Policy Council of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia. Rod relinquished all of these roles on becoming Chairman of the ACCC.
