Bill Powell, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz and Lang Walker addressed a major business lunch for 800 business executives where they were engaged in conversation by Ross Greenwood, Business & Finance Editor, Nine Network on “Real Estate Markets & Happenings in Australia”. This Lunch was proudly sponsored by Macquarie Capital & Quintessential Equity.
In the past 12 months, we have seen a strong recovery in the REIT sector and a pick-up in real estate activity fuelled by lower interest rates, population growth, overseas investors and greater affordability. However, recent performance is varied among property asset classes. To reflect on the past year, and to cast our thoughts on the next 12 months, the top executives from Brookfield Australia, Mirvac and Walker Corporation shared their perspectives.
Bill Powell is Senior Managing Partner and Head of Capital Markets for Brookfield and has recently relocated from New York to become CEO of Brookfield Australia. Brookfield is a global asset manager focused on property, renewable power and infrastructure assets with over $175 billion of worldwide assets under management. In Australia, Brookfield’s operating platforms include infrastructure, commercial office, construction, services and residential development.
Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz was appointed Managing Director at Mirvac in August 2012. Mirvac has over 40 years experience in the Australian development and construction industry and has a diverse portfolio in the office, retail and industrial sectors. Susan has a wealth of industry experience spanning senior roles at LaSalle Investment Management, Macquarie Group and Lend Lease, having worked in the US, Europe and Australia.
Lang Walker is Executive Chairman and owner of Walker Corporation, one of Australia’s most respected and successful property developers. Starting from humble beginnings, Walker Corporation has grown into one of Australia’s most innovative and pioneering property companies. Walker Corporation, with 50 years experience, is across all industry sectors including residential, retail, commercial, industrial and master plan communities.
Ross Greenwood, as one of Australia’s most knowledgeable and articulate business commentators, discussed with Bill, Susan and Lang their views on the current state of the market and how their organisations would approach the upcoming year.
