Alan Joyce, Chief Executive Officer, QANTAS, addressed a special major business lunch for 400 business executives where he discussed with Ross Greenwood, Business & Finance Editor, Nine Network, “Building a Stronger Qantas in 2014.” This lunch was proudly sponsored by BMW Sydney and IBM Australia Ltd.
Alan Joyce has been CEO of Qantas since 2008, leading the airline through its biggest ever transformation program at a time of volatility and change in global aviation.
In his time as CEO, the Qantas Group has renewed its fleet with 130 new aircraft, adopted new technology on a large scale, expanded in Asia and other growth areas, achieved record customer satisfaction and reduced costs by almost 20 per cent.
Qantas is now embarking on a new phase of transformation, with an accelerated $2 billion cost reduction program and a structural review of the Group under way in response to a fundamentally changed market.
This Business Lunch was an opportunity to hear Mr Joyce speak first-hand about the challenges and opportunities facing Qantas, the playing field in Australian aviation, and the big decisions needed to build a strong future for Australia’s national carrier.
It was Mr Joyce’s first major public appearance after Qantas’ financial results announcement on 27 February 2014. He explained, to the large press presence and AICC executives, the necessity of Qantas’ future path, just unveiled a few days prior to AICC luncheon.
