Associate Professor Jim Hutchin, Director Executive MBA Program, UTS, 29 October 2014

Associate Professor Jim Hutchin, Director Executive MBA Program, UTS addressed a Young Business Forum reception with 25 business professionals  on “Crossroads: Sustainability, Risk, Insurance and Best Business Practice”. This event was proudly sponsored by DLA Piper and facilitated by UTS.

In this enlightening and interactive session, Jim discussed:

  • What is meant by sustainability – it is a broad topic, with very different meanings and how do we give it useful specificity in the insurance industry?
  • Why as a concept does sustainability matter more in the world of risk?
  • How can sustainability concepts be utilised to underwrite better?
  • How to use sustainability as a model for improved business operations and profitability, not just a CSR initiative.

Jim was the lead academic on the foundational research for this topic. Jim is still actively involved with the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative.
