YOUNG BUSINESS FORUM & AICC RECEPTION
Anita Mitchell, General Manager Sustainability, Barangaroo South, Lend Lease addressed a Young Business Forum and AICC reception attended by a capacity group of 110 business professionals. Anita discussed “Creating a world class sustainable development at Barangaroo South”.
Sydney’s CBD is being transformed by a generational development of world class proportions. The 22 hectare Barangaroo project is the largest water front CBD urban renewal currently underway in Australia and will include:
- over 75 retail experiences
- more than 120 floors of premium grade office space
- six hectares of green parkland at Barangaroo Point
- a waterfront walk connecting 14 kilometres of the harbour foreshore,
- over 800 residential apartments with harbour views, and an international landmark hotel
But urban renewal isn’t just about what gets built, it’s about bringing an unused area back to life, forming new communities and strengthening existing ones, and ensuring there is a positive legacy left behind long after construction is over.
Anita Mitchell is one of Australia’s most experienced sustainability practitioners and has had responsibility for the strategies of some of Australia’s largest businesses.
Anita’s remit covers the entire $6 billion Barangaroo South urban renewal project being developed by Lend Lease. She is responsible for leading the environmental and social sustainability strategies for the development and ensuring the delivery of carbon neutral, zero waste, water positive and community wellbeing outcomes.
Anita is a Past President of the Environment Institute of Aus/NZ (NSW), Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee of Greenpeace Australia Pacific, and a member of the Management Committee of the Total Environment Centre. In 2008, Anita was listed in the AFR’s BOSS Magazine as a Young Executive of the Year, and in 2012 she was named Australia’s Top Emerging Leader and MBA Scholar by AFR BOSS and Sydney University.
