The Hon Dr Craig Emerson MP, Minister for Small Business, Independent Contractors and the Service Economy, July 15, 2008

Executive Boardroom

The Hon Dr Craig Emerson MP addressed a private boardroom lunch in Sydney for the CEO’s of the Chamber’s Business Club members on the challenges and opportunities facing Small to Medium Enterprises. This event was generously partnered by nabbusiness.

How does government create the economic conditions where small businesses can not only survive, but thrive and expand?

This is Dr Emerson’s mission in his role as Minister for Small Business, Independent Contractors and the Service Economy and the Minister Assisting the Finance Minister on Deregulation in the Rudd Government in December 2007.

Dr Emerson’s immediate challenges include supporting small business by making the Marketplace fairer and cutting edge tape, enhancing the small business sector's capacity by investing in skills, and rolling-out high-speed broadband and a nationwide network of 36 one-stop-shop business support centres.

Professionally, Dr Emerson has held senior appointments in the public sector and as an economic adviser. He has also run a small business in a partnership, so has experience in what makes business tick.
