SME EXECUTIVE BOARDROOM
Patricia Kelly, Director General, IP Australia addressed a private boardroom event for 22 business executives where guests engaged in a discussion about “Strategic Protection and Use of your IP Assets”. This SME Executive Boardroom lunch was proudly sponsored by Swaab Attorneys.
IP Australia is the Australian Government agency that administers intellectual property (IP) rights and legislation relating to patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder's rights. It is a listed entity within the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science. Understanding IP is critical to protecting your unique ideas. IP can significantly affect how you start and run a business and expand its potential. Areas to consider include an IP audit, franchising, branding, doing business overseas and financial matters. IP rights are an incentive to encourage and reward innovation.
Patricia Kelly has been Director-General of IP Australia since December 2013.
Prior to joining IP Australia, Patricia Kelly was a Deputy Secretary in Commonwealth departments responsible for industry and innovation from 2004 -2013. Patricia has had a public sector career spanning over thirty years. Her experience in other portfolios includes the Department of Social Security and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Patricia is a Director of the International Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Organisation, an international consortium of countries working together to build the world’s largest radio telescope.
Since the beginning of 2016, Patricia has also been a Director of the Synchrotron Light Source Australia Board (SLSA). SLSA is the operating company for the Australian Synchrotron, a world class national research facility located in Melbourne.
Patricia was awarded the Australian Public Service Medal in 2013 in acknowledgement of her efforts to secure Australia’s bid to host the SKA and to promote public sector innovation.
