The Sporting Dream Business Event, 17 May 2012
THE SPORTING DREAM BUSINESS LUNCH
With a 200 strong gathering and sponsored by Virgin Australia, the Chamber’s first ever Business & Sport event was an inspirational look at the attributes and commitment that is required to excel in both areas of endeavour. Our panel included some of Australia’s highest achieving individuals: Senator The Hon Kate Lundy, Federal Minister for Sport; Terry Davis, Group CEO, Coca-Cola Amatil & Multiple Gold Medal Rower; Alisa Camplin OAM, Gold & Bronze Medal Aerial Skier & Director, Australian Sports Commission and Geoff Huegill, Silver and Bronze Medal Butterflyer. Peter Hadfield, 10x Decathlete Champion was our moderator and brilliantly led the panel discussion and Q & A.
With the London Games only months away, the event was a celebration of Australia’s athletic elite. In what we believe is a first, past Olympians from all four Olympic movements were represented: Summer, Winter, Para and Special. Ten past Olympians hosted corporate tables and many brought along their medals and uniforms. Most of us mortals were in awe of the successes that these athletes have achieved.
In the opening address, we were inspired and uplifted by Chris Bunton who is a 19 year old Gold medal winning gymnast from last year’s Special Olympics in Athens.
This was a memorable event in a packed calendar, as it showcased so much that is good and inclusive from the success of sport in our nation.
