Innovation Mission to Israel, April 2008
The Hon Evan Thornley MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier of Victoria (and founder of Internet search company, Looksmart) led a high level Australian delegation to Israel on the topic of Innovation to examine the latest developments in information technology, energy and clean technology, biotechnology, science and education. The mission included 45 senior business, government and academic leaders from Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.
During the mission, delegates were shown many of Israel’s leading high-tech and entrepreneurship centres as well as a number of universities and R&D facilities. Delegates also had the unique opportunity to attend the opening of the Park of the Australian Soldier commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Australian Light Horse charge in Beer Sheva and help celebrate the rich history that exists between Australia and Israel.
The AICC has been organising Trade Missions to Israel since 1989. Recent Missions have been led by 3 State Water Ministers; Mr Paul O’Sullivan, CEO Singtel Optus; The Hon Helen Coonan, then Minister for Communications, IT & the Arts; Mr Hugh Morgan AC, then President Business Council of Australia; The Hon Warren Truss MP, then Minister for Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries and Mr Bob Mansfield AO, then Chairman Telstra, amongst many others.
