The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Leader of the Opposition and John Symond AM, Executive Chairman, Aussie, 2 November 2009

Major Business Lunch

The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Leader of the Opposition and John Symond AM, Executive Chairman, Aussie, addressed 800 business executives at a Chamber Business Lunch moderated by Ross Greenwood, Business and Finance Editor, Nine Network on the topic "Property – driving our economic revival?"  This Business Lunch was generously sponsored by Ashe Morgan Winthrop and NICE Systems Australia.

Some would argue that Australia escaped the GFC relatively lightly compared to other countries.  Others would say we are facing another potential downturn.  What role will the property market play in driving the nation’s economic recovery and are monetary and fiscal settings adequate?

The Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce’s annual Property Lunch featured an active discussion on this topic (and more…) by two of Australia’s most informed, influential and outspoken leaders:

MALCOLM TURNBULL MP, Leader of the Federal Opposition, former Minister for Environment and Water Resources, former Shadow Treasurer, successful business man and lawyer.  Malcolm has the business and political experience to comment from a position of knowledge, especially since taking over the Coalition leadership 12 months ago, leading the Opposition’s response to the worst economic conditions the world has experienced in decades.

JOHN SYMOND AM, Executive Chairman, Aussie, is widely credited with bringing competition to the Australian home lending industry, forcing the banks to drop their mortgage interest rates and lifting their service levels.  John is widely recognised for his insights into the important role the retail investor will play in driving the retail and commercial sectors’ recovery, and thus, the broader economy.
