A Business Luncheon with Peter Malinauskas MP, Leader of the Opposition

Peter Malinauskas has been iAustralia since April 2018 and has taken on the key responsibilities of Shadow Minister for Defence and Space Industries and Shadow Minister for Jobs, reflecting his focus on jobs and the economy as being key challenges currently facing the State.

He was born in Adelaide and grew up in the city’s inner southern suburbs. A member of the Australian Labor Party since he was 21, he graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Commerce. Post-University he began his career at the Shop, Distributive and Retail Employees’ Association (SDA), representing retail workers.

He became the State Secretary of the SDA in 2008 and served in that position until 2015 when he entered the South Australian Parliament as a Member of the Legislative Council, where he pursued his passion for improved health care, investing in education, building a stronger South Australian economy and the right of every South Australian to have meaningful work.

Between 2016 and 2018 Peter served in the Weatherill Labor Government as Minister for Health, Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Minister for Police, Correctional Services, Emergency Services and Road Safety. In 2018, he was elected as the Member for Croydon in the House of Assembly. In Peter’s spare time, he can often be found supporting his football team, Port Adelaide, or out on the field playing football himself with his beloved Adelaide University team (The Blacks). Peter and his wife Annabel have three children; daughter Sophie, a son Jack and another daughter, Eliza, born in 2020.
